Annual Billiards Bash @ Club Banora
Sunday 7th April 2024
The Ballina billiards team (Wilcher/Bowers/Beggs/Coan/Murray/Hammond) travelled to Banora on 7 April 2024 for the second annual Ballina Banora Billiards Bash. Beaten (but unbowed) by a measly two points in the last minutes of the day, we lost 11 to 13. Same as last year! Ray Wilcher knocked in a nice 88 break, unlucky not to go on! A good day was had by all (mostly!)

Interclub Visit - Ballina & Banora
Sunday 3rd March 2024
Hi everyone
This is a well deserved thank you to all that attended the tournament at Ballina RSL on Sunday. What a great outing 20 players fighting it out for the privilege of having a great time together in a friendly snooker competition .
Banora showed their usual strength in winning 15 games to 10 while Ballina showed their friendly nature by letting them 😏 It is great to have these outings where all can enjoy each other's company. May we have many more of them.
Don't forget Peter Coan has the Ballina banora Billiards Bash on the horizon soon which gives Billiards players another chance to fight it out in a friendly manner .
I also thank the Ballina RSl Management & staff for the wonderful facilities and assistance each time we have these outings .
The Banora Club members and far north coast snooker association have also asked me to pass on their appreciation & thanks to Management and staff.
KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE NOTICE BOARD FOR MORE COMPETITIONS THIS YEAR
Regards

Brief History of Ballina RSL Billiards & Snooker Club Over 50 Years
In the late 1940's, a group of ex-servicemen came together in a small hall on Moon Street, Ballina, in search of camaraderie and recreational activities. They were fortunate to have access to a Billiards/Snooker table, which quickly became the focal point for socializing and relaxation. As their numbers grew, the Ballina RSL Club was established, leading to a decision to seek larger premises. Eventually, the current location of the club where it stands today stands was chosen and officially opened in the 1960s.
As the RSL membership base expanded, the foresight and interest of RSL Club Management led to the provision of more Billiards/Snooker tables, tradition that continues to this day. In the 1970s, those who enjoyed playing Billiards & Snooker decided to formalize their involvement by creating an official Billiards & Snooker Club. This initiative resulted in the development of a program featuring weekly and annual tournaments, made possible through the dedication and enthusiasm of its members and committees.
The Annual Southern Cross Classic has emerged as a premier event, attracting 48 players each June for the past 30-plus years from various parts of Australia and, occasionally, overseas. Remarkably, the Club’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in its welcoming approach to individuals of all genders, ages and backgrounds. This fosters a friendly environment that promotes a sense of community among players of all skill levels. Scratch and handicapped competitions ensure equal opportunities for everyone, thereby promoting fair play and camaraderie.
If you are interested in Billiards & Snooker and would like to enjoy a friendly social game or engage in competitive play, please enquire at the RSL reception or call John on 0406 067 392 for information.
